Dr. Margaret Owens is an Associate Professor in the Department of English Studies at Nipissing University’s Faculty of Arts and Science. She holds a BA from Trent University, an MA and PhD from the University of Toronto. Her research focuses on Early Modern Literature, Sixteenth- and Seventeenth-Century Literary and Cultural Studies, and Critical/Cultural Theory with emphases on psychoanalytic criticism. She also explores Visual Culture, Film Studies, and Body Studies.
Her current book project, “Imaginary Anatomy: Effigeal Bodies in Early Modern and Modern Culture,” examines effigies and corporeality across Shakespearean drama to modern horror films. Her 2005 monograph Stages of Dismemberment analyzes fragmented body representations in medieval/early modern theatre, linking them to Reformation-era semiotics.
