Nicole Rice is a Professor of English at St. John's University, affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University, an M.Phil. from the University of Cambridge, and a B.A. from Yale University. Her research focuses on late medieval religious culture, social life, and literary forms such as prose, poetry, and drama.

Her work examines intersections between lay piety, religious discipline, and literary production in medieval England. Major publications include Lay Piety and Religious Discipline in Middle English Literature (2008) and The Civic Cycles (2015), the latter co-authored with Margaret A. Pappano and awarded the 2016 David Bevington Award. She has also edited collections on medieval religious texts and received a 2018 NEH Fellowship for her current project on hospitals and literary production (1350–1550).
Her teaching spans medieval drama, Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, gender studies, and medieval romance. Collaborative projects include studies of artisan culture and premodern drama’s role in shaping identity.
