Margaret Meredith is a Senior Lecturer in Education at York St John University, where she serves as Module 1 Director for the Professional Doctorate programme, co-leads the MA Education, and co-leads the Postgraduate Research team in the School of Education, Language and Psychology. Her work emphasizes social justice in higher education and epistemic justice, advocating for diverse knowledge systems. She founded the cross-school Higher Education Research Group to foster collaborative, interdisciplinary academic practices.
Research Focus: Dr. Meredith’s research interrogates how universities can promote epistemic justice by valuing non-traditional knowledge forms, particularly through action research and participatory methodologies. She explores the role of universities in addressing societal inequities and advancing knowledge democracy, with a focus on global North-South academic collaborations.
Recent Work: Her 2024 book Universities and Epistemic Justice in a Plural World examines knowledge justice in academia. Recent contributions include exploring rural students’ access to science education in South Africa and ethical dilemmas in academic citation practices.
Professional Roles: Prior to academia, she worked as a youth worker and primary school teacher in the UK and Spain. She supervises PhD and EdD students, focusing on reflective practice and professional development.
