Margaret Little is a Professor in Political Studies at Queen’s University, with a joint appointment in Gender Studies. Her research focuses on poverty, welfare policy, gendered and racialized violence, and marginalized women’s activism in Canada. She holds a PhD from York University, an MA from Queen’s University, and a BJHons from the University of King’s College.
Her work includes a SSHRC-funded project exploring Indigenous, racialized, immigrant, and low-income women’s political organizing in Canada (1960s–1980s), combining archival research and oral histories. She has received significant awards, including a SSHRC Insight Grant (2018–2023) and a Chancellor’s Research Award (2000–2005).
- Research Interests: Poverty, Canadian social policy, welfare reform, gendered violence, and marginalized women’s activism.
- Teaching: Courses in Political Studies and Gender Studies.
- Service: Departmental Committee Field Convenor for Gender and Politics (Winter 2025).
Her publications include seminal works on single mothers’ moral regulation and women’s retraining programs. She actively supervises graduate students in poverty studies, Canadian social policy, and activism.
