Margaret Moore is a Professor in the Department of Political Studies at Queen's University, cross-appointed in the Department of Philosophy. Her research focuses on political philosophy, territorial justice, and global distributive justice. She holds a PhD from the London School of Economics and has authored influential books such as *A Political Theory of Territory* (2015), which won the Canadian Philosophical Association’s Best Book Prize (2017). Her work addresses ethical dimensions of territorial rights, historical injustice, nationalism, and environmental obligations.
Research Interests: Moore explores topics including territorial justice, biodiversity ethics, colonialism’s legacy, and the moral foundations of democratic institutions. She critiques and develops theories of state sovereignty, self-determination, and the obligations attached to place.
Professional Recognition: She became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (2019) and held visiting positions at the Australian National University (2018) and the University of Stockholm (2018). Her scholarship bridges political theory, law, and international relations.
Teaching & Service: Moore teaches in Queen’s Political and Legal Theory program and serves on academic committees, including as Convenor of the Political and Legal Theory Program. She co-edits *Critical Review of International Social and Political Philosophy*.
Labs/Teams: Director of the Centre for the Study of Democracy and Diversity at Queen’s, promoting interdisciplinary research on democratic challenges and cultural pluralism.
