Mareike Beck is an Assistant Professor in International Political Economy at the University of Warwick. Previously, she held a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship at King’s College London and completed her PhD at the University of Sussex. Her research focuses on the socio-economic impacts of financialisation, particularly the USD-based global financial architecture and asset-based inequalities. She employs feminist political economy approaches to analyze everyday financial practices and has pioneered creative methodologies like aerial circus performances to communicate complex theories of housing inequality and global finance.
Beck’s academic work includes a forthcoming book, Extroverted Financialisation: Banking on USD Debt, under contract with Cambridge University Press, and contributions to journals such as Review of International Political Economy and Socio-Economic Review. She has collaborated with civil society groups and engaged in public knowledge exchange through artistic projects, including a Brighton Fringe Aerial Circus show addressing homes as both living spaces and financial assets.
In teaching, Beck convenes the Foundations of Political Economy module for first-year students and tutors in States and Markets. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges traditional academic research with innovative public engagement strategies.
