Marcus Sagerfors is an Associate Professor affiliated with the School of Medical Sciences and the Department of Medical Sciences at Örebro University. He is also a Senior Physician at Örebro University Hospital and a consultant hand surgeon. His research focuses on hand surgery, particularly distal radius fractures and joint replacement, with a strong emphasis on wrist arthroplasty and surgical outcomes. He has co-supervised PhD students Per Fischer (2019) and Eva Lundqvist (2022), and currently supervises Hugo Jakobsson, Ásgerdur Thórdardóttir, and Madeleine Harryson.
His research projects include national surveys on musculoskeletal pain in dysmelia patients and studies on distal radius fractures. He is part of the Treatment in Upper and lower limb Malformation or Amputation (TUMA) and Orthopedics research groups. Sagerfors has authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, focusing on surgical techniques, implant outcomes, and epidemiological analyses of fractures. His work combines clinical practice with biomechanical and radiographic studies to improve surgical interventions and patient care.
Key areas of research include wrist arthroplasty design, fracture fixation techniques, and the long-term outcomes of surgical procedures. He has presented at major conferences such as the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) and the International Federation of the Societies for Surgery of the Hand (IFSSH). His contributions span both clinical and methodological advancements in hand and upper extremity surgery.
