Marco Thomas

Marco Thomas is a Professor of Clarinet and Chamber Music at the University of the Arts Bremen since 2000. He previously held positions as Principal Clarinetist of the Berliner Philharmonischen Orchester (until 1999) and co-founded the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. As a soloist and chamber musician, he collaborates with renowned orchestras and festivals globally, including the Lucerne Festival Orchestra under Claudio Abbado. He leads the Norddeutschen Klarinettentage and founded the ensemble 'Clarinet News.'

Education: Studied in Leipzig, where he won the Gewandhaus Stipendium and became a Karajan Academy scholar. Career highlights include solo performances with Roberto Alagna on the EMI CD 'Verdi-Arien,' praised for 'unendliche Lyrik' and 'phantastisch gespieltes Solo.'

Research and Teaching: Directs orchestral projects at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen, conducts masterclasses internationally, and leads chamber music ensembles. His pedagogical work emphasizes clarinet technique and collaborative performance.

Awards: Recognized through prestigious scholarships and critical acclaim for his recordings. He has directed projects with the Kammer- und Hochschulorchesters and founded the Salonorchester Cappuccino Leipzig.
