Marco Macchiavelli is an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Isenberg School of Management, University of Massachusetts Amherst, and serves as Co-Director of the Finance PhD Program and Director of the Finance Honors Program. Previously, he worked as an Economist at the Federal Reserve Board from 2015 to 2022. He holds a PhD in Economics from Boston College (2015), an MA in Economics from the University of Bologna (2010), and a BA in Economics and Finance from the University of Bologna (2008).

His research focuses on money markets, broker-dealers, bond liquidity, financial stability, dispersed information, intelligence/espionage, and cybersecurity. His work has been published in top journals like the Journal of Financial Economics and Review of Financial Studies.
Recent research highlights include analyzing cyberattack propagation through supply chains, liquidity dynamics in money market funds, and the role of shadow banks in safe asset creation. He is a Visiting Scholar at the Richmond Fed and advises Blockhouse.
