Marcellus Mbah is a Lecturer in Education at the Manchester Institute of Education, University of Manchester. He holds a PhD from Canterbury Christ Church University (2015), an MA in Educational Leadership from the University of Nottingham (2011), and a BSc in Management from the University of Buea (2005). His research focuses on Indigenous Knowledge Systems, Climate Change Education (SDG13), decolonisation in academia, and sustainable development. Mbah has led projects in Cameroon and Zambia, including the New Investigator Fellowship-funded study on Indigenous children's learning during the pandemic. He is founder of the Indigenous Knowledge for Sustainable Development network and editor of Indigenous Methodologies, Research, and Practices for Sustainable Development (Springer).
Research interests include:
- Indigenisation of climate education
- Epistemic justice in knowledge systems
- University-community partnerships
- Decolonial pedagogies
His work spans over 50 publications across peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes, emphasizing participatory methodologies like ethnography and action research. Notable awards include the 2023 Humanities Research Investment Fund Fellowship and the 2020 Best Paper Award.
Mbah currently serves on editorial boards for three journals: International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education, Humanities & Social Sciences Communications, and Journal of Environmental Education. He collaborates internationally through platforms like the Austrian Partnership Programme in Higher Education and Research for Development.
