Marcello Vanali is a Full Professor in Mechanical Measurements at the Department of Engineering and Architecture, University of Parma. Previously, he served as Assistant Professor (2002–2011) and Associate Professor (2011–2024) at Politecnico di Milano and University of Parma, respectively. He founded the mechanical measurement group at Parma and holds leadership roles, including President of the Master’s Degree Course in Mechanical Engineering and Director of the PhD Course board.
- Education: PhD in Applied Mechanics (2003), Politecnico di Milano; MSc in Mechanical Engineering (1998), Politecnico di Milano.
His research spans experimental and applied mechanics, focusing on vibro-acoustic phenomena, fluid-structure interaction, railway vehicle dynamics, and structural health monitoring. Key projects include damping characterization of cables, vibration analysis of the London Eye, and MEMS sensor development.
Recent publications highlight structural monitoring technologies, additive manufacturing applications, and human-structure interaction modeling. Themes include wireless sensing, environmental variability impacts, and piezoelectric coupling robustness.
- Leadership Roles: President of the Master’s Degree Council, Director of the PhD Course board.
- Editorial Roles: Associate Editor for Shock & Vibration, Reviewer for journals like Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing.
- Industrial Collaborations: Pirelli Tyres, Leonardo Helicopters, STMicroelectronics, and others.
