Qianqian Li

Dr. Qianqian Li is a Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, affiliated with the Dynamics Group within the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research. He was appointed in 2025 as part of the Horizon Europe project QuieterRail, focusing on advancing railway noise and vibration mitigation technologies. His roles include leading research initiatives and collaborating with academic and industry partners globally.

Education: He holds dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Tongji University (Shanghai, China) and Politecnico di Milano (Milan, Italy) through the PoliTong program. He earned dual Master of Science degrees from Politecnico di Milano and Politecnico di Torino (Turin, Italy) via the Alta Scuola Politecnica program, followed by a PhD in Railway Engineering and Track Modelling from Politecnico di Milano.

Research Interests: Dr. Li specializes in railway noise mechanisms (rolling noise, curve squeal), advanced railway track modeling, and the non-linear dynamic behavior of resilient track components. His work integrates theoretical analysis, computational modeling, and experimental validation to improve railway infrastructure sustainability and acoustic performance.

Current Projects: He is a core researcher in the EU-funded QuieterRail project, aiming to develop innovative prediction tools and cost-effective solutions for railway noise and vibration. His contributions include optimizing track designs and vibration damping technologies.

Academic Engagement: Dr. Li actively invites research proposals from both university and external collaborators in railway engineering domains. He emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to address complex challenges in transportation systems.
