Prof. Marcello Ienca holds the Professorship of Ethics of AI & Neuroscience at the TUM School of Medicine and Health. His research focuses on ethically sustainable AI systems, neurotechnologies, and neurorights. He has pioneered work in neuroethics, particularly addressing brain-machine interfaces and mental privacy.
Education: Completed studies in philosophy and cognitive science at the University of Rome, Humboldt University of Berlin, New York University, and KU Leuven. Earned a PhD in biomedical ethics from the University of Basel (2018). Previously held roles at ETH Zurich, University of Oxford (visiting scholar), and EPFL (founding director of the Intelligent Systems Ethics Group).
Research interests span neurotechnology ethics, AI governance, and the societal implications of converging technologies. Notable contributions include frameworks for neurorights and ethical guidelines for hacked data use.
