Prof. Jennifer A. Chandler is a Full Professor at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Law (Common Law Section) and holds the Canada Research Chair in the Law and Ethics of Brain Technologies. She also serves as Bertram Loeb Research Chair and Vice-Dean of Research for the Faculty of Law. Her work focuses on the intersection of neuroscience, neurotechnology, health law, and ethics, with notable contributions to organ donation policy, mental health law, and neuroethics. Dr. Chandler leads multidisciplinary projects examining neuroprostheses, death determination criteria, and the ethical implications of emerging technologies. She chairs national policy assessments, including Canada's fetal alcohol spectrum disorder inquiry and the Hybrid Minds project on intelligent neuroprostheses. Her 2024 Steven E. Hyman Award recognizes her pioneering neuroethics work. She advises on medical assistance in dying and has developed clinical guidelines for brain-based death determination endorsed by 15 medical organizations.
