Marcel Verbeek

Prof. Marcel Verbeek is a Professor at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Radboud University Medical Center. His research focuses on the neurochemistry of neurodegenerative disorders, particularly movement disorders (e.g., Parkinson’s disease) and dementia syndromes, including cerebral amyloid angiopathy and Alzheimer’s disease. He investigates biomarker development in body fluids for diagnostic and prognostic applications, collaborating with the Parkinson Centre Nijmegen, Radboud Alzheimer Centre, and international researchers. His work also explores cerebrovascular amyloid formation mechanisms, protein aggregation, and clearance pathways.

Key projects include the ZonMW Memorabel Program (2014–2018 and 2018–2022) for identifying biomarkers in cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA), Alzheimer Nederland-funded studies on Aβ clearance, and the BrainMatTrain ITN Marie Skłodowska-Curie program (2016–2019). His research integrates clinical translation, molecular pathology, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
