Dr. Marcel Hoogenboom is an Associate Professor in the Department of Interdisciplinary Social Science at Utrecht University, within the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. He holds a PhD from the Amsterdam School for Social Science Research (University of Amsterdam) and a Political Science degree from Leiden University. Prior to Utrecht, he worked at the University of Twente as a researcher and lecturer.

Research Interests: Marcel's work focuses on welfare state analysis, citizenship rights, and historical institutionalism. His recent work applies capabilities theory to analyze work-care reconciliation and EU citizenship prospects.
Grants & Collaborations: Active in interdisciplinary projects such as the bEUcitizen initiative exploring European citizenship dynamics. Collaborates with international scholars on comparative welfare state studies and historical policy analysis.
