Dr. Marc Sim is a Senior Research Fellow at Edith Cowan University (ECU) within the School of Medical and Health Sciences, leading the Falls Free Future Program under the Nutrition and Health Innovation Research Institute (NHIRI). He also serves as Deputy Lead for the Disorders of Mineralisation Research Group at ECU. His research focuses on reducing falls and fractures in older populations through nutrition, physical activity, and musculoskeletal health. He holds a PhD from The University of Western Australia (2015) and is an accredited Exercise and Sport Scientist and registered Nutritionist.
Key research interests include the interplay between cardiovascular and musculoskeletal health, vitamin K’s role in fracture prevention, and sarcopenia management. He leads the Perth Longitudinal Study of Aging Women and collaborates internationally, including with the Royal Perth Hospital Research Foundation. Awards include the 2025 International Osteoporosis Foundation Young Investigator Award and 2023 Young Tall Poppy Science Award.
Dr. Sim has secured grants totaling ~$1.1M AUD from Denmark’s Independent Research Fund and Australian health initiatives. His work spans clinical trials, biostatistics, and public health interventions. He advises national organizations like the Australian Bone and Mineral Society and contributes to global consensus efforts on sarcopenia definitions.
