Dr. David Scott is an Adjunct Associate Professor in Medicine at Monash Health, part of Monash University's School of Clinical Sciences. He holds a PhD in Epidemiology of Sarcopenia from the University of Tasmania (2010) and an Honours degree in Exercise and Sport Science. As founder of the Sarcopenia, Obesity and Lifestyle Laboratory, his research focuses on age-related skeletal muscle quality (sarcopenia) and adiposity (obesity), their impact on falls/fractures in older adults, and lifestyle interventions. He leads clinical trials exploring exercise/nutrition impacts on bone and muscle health. He has published over 130 articles, edited journals, and received awards including the NHMRC Career Development Fellowship (2016) and Victorian Young Tall Poppy Award (2017). Currently supervises 6 PhD students and serves on editorial boards of the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research and JBMR Plus.
Research interests include musculoskeletal imaging, objective physical activity assessment, and collaborations with global cohorts like the Tasmanian Older Adult Cohort. His recent projects include the TeleFFIT telehealth program to reduce falls/fractures and studies on wearable devices for plantar pressure quantification. He also advises pharmaceutical companies like Pfizer and holds an innovation patent (#2018101099) for a wearable device in osteogenic exercise analysis.
