Marc Escrihuela Villar

Marc Escrihuela Villar is a Full Professor at the Department of Applied Economics at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), where he has been teaching since 2008. He previously served as Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business and Head of Studies for the Bachelor's Degree in Economics from 2009 to 2016. His academic career includes teaching positions at the Universities of Alicante, Granada, Carlos III University of Madrid, and Guanajuato University in Mexico.

Dr. Escrihuela Villar holds a degree in Economics from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (1996) and a PhD in Economics from the University of Alicante (2003). His research focuses on Industrial Organization, particularly on competition law, market collusion, and mergers. He is a member of the Conflicto e Interacción Estratégica (CIE) research group at UIB and has participated in several competitive national research projects, including the current project "Conflict and Strategic Influence: The Effects of Rent-Seeking Activities on Collective Decisions" funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy.

His research interests center on theoretical aspects of Industrial Organization, with particular emphasis on market competition, collusion dynamics, merger effects, and the relationship between market structure and economic outcomes. His work employs game-theoretic models to analyze strategic interactions among firms in various market structures, producing significant contributions to understanding oligopoly behavior, price formation, and competition policy implications.

Dr. Escrihuela Villar has received recognition for his research, including the Second Best Paper Prize from SMYE for his work on "Partial coordination and mergers among quantity-setting firms" in 2004. He serves as a referee for numerous prestigious economics journals including the International Journal of Industrial Organization, Economic Theory, and Journal of Economics.

As an educator, he teaches Industrial Organization (in both Catalan and English) in the Bachelor's Degree in Economics program and supervises Final Degree Projects. His teaching responsibilities extend to the Double Degree in Economics and Tourism. He has coordinated the Erasmus exchange program for agreements between UIB and several European universities, demonstrating his commitment to international academic collaboration.
