Dr. Mara Malagodi is a Reader in Law at the University of Warwick's School of Law, joining in 2022 from the London School of Economics (LSE). She specializes in comparative constitutional law, legal history, law and film, human rights, and gender studies with a focus on South Asian law and politics. She holds a Doctorate, MA, and BA from the University of London (SOAS) and was a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow at LSE.
Her research encompasses constitutional nationalism, legal exclusion, and gender equality, with publications including Constitutional Nationalism and Legal Exclusion in Nepal (2013) and a forthcoming analysis of Nepal's constitution. She co-edits a four-volume series on Asian Comparative Constitutional Law (2023–2026) and serves as co-Editor-in-Chief of Constitutional Studies, the official journal of the International Association of Constitutional Law.
Award-winning filmmaker, she trained at Cuba’s EICTV and produced documentaries recognized at Raindance and Sheffield Doc Fest. She is a non-practicing barrister, Middle Temple scholar, and collaborates with the EUWONDER project on European gender equality. Her consultancy work includes UN agencies and the UK’s Diplomatic Academy.
