معرفی
Manuel Jobert is a University Professor in the Department of English Studies at Jean Moulin University (University of Lyon 3), where he also serves as Vice-President for Europe and International Relations. He is affiliated with the Faculty of Languages and holds a visiting professorship in English Stylistics at the University of Huddersfield, United Kingdom.
His research spans several key areas in linguistics and literary studies, with a strong focus on Stylistics, Pragmatics, Phonetics, and Phonostylistics. His work explores the intersection of writing and orality, spatial variation in language, the written representation of phonostyles, and Japanese-American literature. He has contributed significantly to the study of paralinguistic phenomena, narrative voice, and linguistic impoliteness.
The recent publications reflect a consistent trajectory in phonostylistic analysis, particularly in literary texts such as Kate Chopin’s stories, Julie Otsuka’s novels, and even children’s literature like Winnie-the-Pooh. His scholarship combines theoretical rigor with close textual analysis, often bridging phonetics and narrative structure. Themes of voice, silence, dialect representation, and irony recur across his works.
Manuel Jobert has co-edited and authored several influential volumes in stylistics and pragmatics, including works on irony, euphemism, and linguistic impoliteness. His editorial contributions highlight his leadership in the field.
He has supervised doctoral research, as evidenced by his HDR (Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches) from the University of Paris West Nanterre in 2010, and has taught courses in English phonetics, spoken language, and linguistics. His international experience includes teaching at the École Navale in France and serving as a French lecturer at the University of Leeds, UK. He is actively engaged in academic service and international collaboration through his vice-presidential role.
He is associated with research teams and academic networks in stylistics and English studies, particularly through collaborative publications and editorial work. His visiting position at Huddersfield further extends his academic reach.
