Dr. Manoji Gunathilake is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and currently serves as a Specialist Sexual Health Physician at the Sexual Health & Blood Borne Virus Unit of the Northern Territory (NT) Department of Health. She holds qualifications including MB BS, Dip Ven, MD, DFSRH, and FAChSHM, obtained in Sri Lanka. Her primary affiliation is with the NT Department of Health, focusing on sexual health and infectious disease management.
Dr. Gunathilake’s research interests center on STIs in Indigenous populations in remote/rural settings, human papillomavirus (HPV) infections, syphilis epidemiology, antimicrobial resistance, and the development of rapid diagnostic testing strategies. Her work emphasizes improving healthcare access and reducing stigma associated with HIV and STIs in marginalized communities.
Her recent publications highlight studies on STI surveillance in Australia, genomic analysis of syphilis outbreaks, and adaptations of sexual health services during the pandemic. She has contributed to clinical guidelines for neurosyphilis management and evaluates healthcare delivery models in underserved regions.
Dr. Gunathilake has been actively involved in the Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine (RACP) and the Australasian Society of Sexual Health Medicine. Her work bridges clinical practice, research, and public health policy to address critical gaps in infectious disease control and healthcare equity.
