Janet Towns is a Research Fellow at the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre, affiliated with Monash University. Her work focuses on sexually transmitted infections (STIs), particularly syphilis, and the application of artificial intelligence in clinical diagnosis. She holds a PhD in Modern Ethical Syphilology from Monash University (2020), alongside advanced degrees in Public Health, Forensic Medicine, and General Practice. Key achievements include leading the 2017 project on epidemic syphilis in Victoria and receiving the Burnet Prize for Infectious Diseases Research (2021). Her research integrates machine learning and Bayesian networks to improve STI detection, as seen in recent publications. Towns has also contributed to studies on mpox vaccine distribution and sexual assault management. Awards include the Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine Research Scholarship (2017) and Monash University Post-doctoral Bridging Grant (2021).
