Manish Arora is a Professor and Vice Chairman of the Department of Environmental Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He serves as the Edith J. Baerwald Professor, directs the environmental exposure and precision environmental medicine laboratories at the Mount Sinai Institute for Exposomic Research, and leads a multidisciplinary team of over 50 scientists. His work intersects environmental health, biodynamics, and disease mechanisms.
- BDS, MPH, PhD in Environmental Health
Dr. Arora’s research focuses on prenatal and early-life chemical exposures and their lifelong health impacts, including autism, ALS, cancers, and gastrointestinal disorders. His pioneering Biodynamic Interface Theory (2020) redefined environmental health research by emphasizing dynamic interactions between environment and physiology. He developed biomarkers using teeth and hair to map exposure timelines, leading to an FDA Breakthrough Designation for an autism biomarker.
His scientific contributions are recognized through awards such as the PECASE (2015), NIH Director’s New Innovator Award (2014), and the IADR/Hatton Award (2005). He authored the book Environmental Biodynamics: A New Science of How the Environment Interacts with Human Health (Oxford University Press, 2021).
