Robert O Wright

Robert O Wright, MD, MPH, is a Professor and System Chair in the Department of Environmental Medicine and Public Health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, with a secondary appointment in Pediatrics. He is a leading figure in children's environmental health research, integrating exposure science, epigenetics, and epidemiology to study the impact of environmental factors on neurodevelopment and reproductive health.

Dr. Wright’s research focuses on exposomics and chemical mixtures, particularly through large NIH-funded cohort studies in Mexico City (R01 ES013744, R01ES020268, R01ES021357, R01ES026033). His recent publications reveal associations between prenatal exposures to manganese, air pollution, and adverse child health outcomes, including sleep disturbances, psychological functioning, and respiratory mortality. These works collectively emphasize environmental justice, developmental vulnerabilities, and the need for policy-relevant science.

He has received notable recognition, including the Young Investigator Award from the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine and the Charlotte Promersberger Johnston Endowed Lectureship. His leadership extends to founding and directing key research centers: the Mount Sinai P30 Core Center in Transdisciplinary Environmental Health Research, the CHEAR Lab Hub, the Senator Frank Lautenberg Laboratory in Environmental Health Sciences, and the Mount Sinai Institute for Exposomic Research.

Dr. Wright is actively engaged in mentoring, grant-funded research, and institutional innovation. He has over 500 publications and continues to shape the future of exposomic science through interdisciplinary collaboration and translational impact.
