Dr. Maja Fowkes is an art historian, curator, and co-director of the Post-socialist Art Centre (PACT) at the Institute of Advanced Studies, University College London. Her work focuses on Central and Eastern European art since 1950, with a particular emphasis on ecological themes within socialist-era visual arts and the concept of the Socialist Anthropocene.
Her notable publications include Art and Climate Change (2022), Central and Eastern European Art Since 1950 (2020), and The Green Bloc: Neo-Avant-Garde Art and Ecology under Socialism (2015). Recent curatorial projects such as ‘Colliding Epistemes’ (2022) and ‘Potential Agrarianisms’ (2021) highlight her interdisciplinary approach to art and environmental issues.
