Daniel Grúň

Assoc. Prof. Daniel Grúň is an Associate Professor at the Department of Theory and History of Art at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. His research focuses on art and politics in Eastern Europe, history of art criticism, and documentary strategies in contemporary art. He holds a PhD from the Academy of Fine Arts and has completed postgraduate studies there. Grúň has received prestigious awards including the Fulbright Scholarship (2012) and the Igor Zabel Award (2010). His work includes over 20 publications analyzing Slovak neo-avant-garde movements, conceptual art, and archival practices. He has curated notable exhibitions like 'Committed to Change' and 'Museum of Parallel Narratives.' Grúň is actively involved in academic organizations such as tranzit.sk and the Slovak Section of AICA.

Key research areas include the intersection of art with political contexts, particularly in post-communist societies, and the role of archives in cultural memory. His recent work emphasizes transnational networks among Eastern European artists and the reinterpretation of historical avant-garde movements. Grúň teaches courses on 20th-century sculpture, art criticism frameworks, and curatorial methodologies.
