Beata Jablonská

Beata Jablonská serves as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Theory and History of Art, Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava since 2014. Previously, she worked as a curator at the Slovak National Gallery (1995-2009) and as a researcher at the Centre for Visual and Cultural Studies (2009-2014).

Her research focuses on 20th-century art history with specialization in Slovak modern and contemporary art theory, painting history, conceptual art strategies, and critical visual studies. She examines the intersections of national identity, gender politics, and artistic production within Central European contexts, particularly analyzing how painting functions as both commodity and critical medium in postmodern conditions.

Her publications reveal consistent engagement with Slovak conceptual art (1970s-1990s), postmodern transitions in the 1980s, and contemporary painting discourse. Key thematic threads include the role of painting in conceptual strategies, feminist reinterpretations of artistic legacy, and curatorial frameworks for understanding regional art movements.

As a curator, Jablonská has organized significant exhibitions including "Osemdesiate. Postmoderna v slovenskom výtvarnom umení 1985–1992" (2009) at Slovak National Gallery and "Drawing is thinking" (2011) at Galéria Médium. Her theoretical work bridges academic research with practical curatorial applications, contributing to both scholarly discourse and public art education through regular lectures and exhibition essays. She maintains active participation in Central European art networks through collaborations with institutions in Brno and Prague.
