Anu Allas is a Visiting Researcher and Head of the Museology Department at the Estonian Academy of Arts' Institute of Art History and Visual Culture. She also serves as a program manager and curator at Kumu Art Museum. Her academic roles include teaching courses on 20th-century art history, Soviet-era Estonian art, and museum theory.
- PhD from Free University of Berlin (2013) on experimental practices in Estonian art/theatre of the 1960s
- MA from Estonian Academy of Arts
Research focuses on post-WWII socialist Eastern European art, neo-avant-garde movements (1960s–70s), performative art practices, and Soviet-era Estonian art. She curates exhibitions like the Kumu permanent display on Soviet-era Estonian art (2016) and has organized conferences on Eastern European art histories.
Publications include the monograph Spiel der Unsicherheit (2015) and co-edited Globalizing East European Art Histories (2018). She regularly publishes articles on socialist-era art and contemporary museology challenges.
Currently teaches Introduction to Museum History and Theory and a master's seminar in museology.
