Maike Dinger is a Research Fellow at Bournemouth University and previously held a Lecturer position at the University of Stirling within the Communications, Media and Culture department. Her research focuses on the intersection of culture, politics, and national identity, particularly analyzing media representation and political participation in the context of the 2014 Scottish independence referendum (indyref). She completed an interdisciplinary PhD under supervisors Dr. Scott Hames and Dr. Michael Higgins, exploring discourses of political participation through literature, media, and grassroots activism.
Her work emphasizes critical analysis of how political debates are mediated, including oral history projects, literary texts, and digital activism. She has presented at conferences such as MeCCSA, PSA Media and Politics Group, and the World Congress of Scottish Literature. Maike has been awarded grants including the AHRC Doctoral Scholarship and SGSAH-funded internships, supporting projects like the Scottish Parliament Oral History initiative.
Awards include recognition for her contributions to public engagement and academic outreach, such as organizing the SGSAH Cohort Development event on academic YouTube strategies. She actively participates in research groups like Stirling’s Modern Research Group and Feminist Reading Group, and her recent work expands into broader questions of media futures and nationalism studies.
