Emma McCabe is an AHRC-funded part-time PhD researcher jointly appointed at the University of Stirling and University of Glasgow, affiliated with the Scottish Graduate School of Arts & Humanities. As a member of the Literature and Languages Division within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, her work bridges theological inquiry with literary analysis.
- Primary Institution: University of Stirling
- Secondary Affiliation: University of Glasgow
- Doctoral Supervisors: Dr. Andrew Hass (Stirling), Dr. Angus Vine (Stirling), Professor Heather Walton (Glasgow)
Her research synthesizes early modern literature, theatre, and medicine through queer theory, apophaticism, and theopoetics to examine Renaissance sexual embodiment. Key interests include apophatic theology, trans-inclusive feminism, medical humanities, and continental philosophy, with particular focus on premodern representations of gender and embodiment.
McCabe actively contributes to academic discourse through conference organization including the upcoming 22nd ISRLC Conference ('Dis-ruptures', 2026) and serves as SGSAH EDI PhD Mentor (2025). Her research methodology challenges reductive historicisms while connecting early modern thought to contemporary gender politics.
