Maia Holtermann Entwistle

Dr. Maia Holtermann Entwistle is a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at Queen Mary University of London's School of Politics and International Relations, joining in November 2023. Previously, she held an ESRC postdoctoral fellowship at the London School of Economics (LSE) and taught at SOAS and Queen Mary. She earned her PhD in Politics and International Studies from SOAS in 2022.

Her research focuses on race and racism in historical contexts of the Arabian Peninsula’s pearl and early oil industries, with a Leverhulme-funded project exploring trans-oceanic circuits of labor and capital. She is also developing her PhD work into a book titled 'Constructing Culture: Art, Race, and Capitalism on the Arabian Peninsula.'

Collaborations include co-creating the Material Crimes podcast series with Surviving Society, examining infrastructure, colonialism, and resistance through accessible storytelling.
