Maia King is a Lecturer in Economics at King's College London, based in the Department of Political Economy within the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy. Her research focuses on governance institutions, public finance, policy-making, and social/economic networks, with a particular emphasis on the political economy of foreign aid and localisation efforts. Previously, she worked at HM Treasury, the ODI Centre for Aid and Public Expenditure, and ministries in Madagascar and Liberia. She holds a PhD in Economics from Queen Mary University of London.
Her current projects include developing a decision mapping tool for aid localisation funded by ESRC IAA and KCL. Maia co-authored a 2023 book on UK fiscal spending and has published widely on topics like network-based welfare targeting and carbon tax reforms. She participates in research groups such as the Quantitative Political Economy Group and the Global South Research Group.
Maia supervises PhD candidates researching governance and foreign aid, requiring applicants to have 2+ years of non-academic experience. She is affiliated with King's Centres for British Democracy and Environment & Public Policy, contributing to interdisciplinary studies on policy regulation and social equity.
