Dr. Nahee Kang is a Senior Lecturer in Political Economy of Emerging Markets at King’s College London (KCL), based in the Department of International Development within the School of Global Affairs. She serves as Deputy Director of the KCL-SOAS London Asia Pacific Centre for Social Sciences. Her research focuses on the political economy of development in emerging economies, particularly East Asia, examining topics such as late capitalism, corporate governance, and the middle-income trap. She holds a PhD in Social and Political Sciences from the University of Cambridge, funded by the Cambridge Political Economy Society Trust.
Her research interests include the role of large corporations in fostering equitable development, institutional dynamics of late capitalism, and the politics of inclusive industrial growth. She has been funded by prestigious grants including the ESRC Postdoctoral Fellowship and a Leverhulme Trust project for her monograph on corporate power in South Korea.
Dr. Kang has supervised numerous PhD students and teaches courses on East Asian development, industrial strategies, and political economy. She is actively involved in research groups like Global Production, Finance and Labour and Global Capitalism, Power & Uneven Development. Notable awards include the British Academy’s Rising Star Engagement Award and Leverhulme Trust funding for her current book project.
