Mai Do, MD, DrPH, is an Associate Professor and Vice Chair at Tulane University’s Weatherhead School of Public Health (WSPH), within the Department of Social, Behavioral, and Population Sciences. She holds dual expertise in clinical medicine and public health, with a DrPH from Johns Hopkins University and an MD from Hanoi Medical University. Her work focuses on healthcare access and quality, particularly in family planning, reproductive health, and maternal and child health, with a focus on vulnerable populations, including immigrants and disaster-affected communities. She teaches program monitoring in global health and survey data analysis using Stata.
Research interests include investigating stigma barriers to mental health care among Vietnamese immigrants and the impact of natural disasters on health outcomes. Dr. Do has conducted studies across Africa, Asia, and the U.S., emphasizing health equity through impact evaluations and program design. Notable honors include Tulane SPHTM’s Excellence in Teaching Award (2020–2021), membership in Tulane’s Emerging Leaders Program (2021), and sustained fellowships like Newcomb Fellow (2011–present) and Delta Omega Society (2005–present).
Her research spans topics such as malaria care-seeking in Africa, HIV testing in South Africa, and reproductive health equity in Asia. She has contributed to over 50 peer-reviewed publications, focusing on bridging household and health system data for improved healthcare coverage metrics. Dr. Do actively engages in public health practice through Tulane’s Office of Public Health Practice, emphasizing community partnerships and evidence-based policy.
