Maho Fukuno is a Lecturer in Japanese Studies at RMIT University's School of Global, Urban and Social Studies (GUSS). Her research focuses on translation ethics, intercultural communication, and multicultural language services. She explores how translators' practices align with societal needs, particularly in public health contexts. Current projects aim to bridge gaps between translators and readers to improve multicultural health communication.
Research interests include community translation ethics, moral philosophy in language practice, and fair language education. She coordinates Japanese language courses (LANG 1093/1407, LANG 1098/1421) and supervises PhD students like Budur Alsulami. Maho holds an Associate Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy and is affiliated with organizations like the Japanese Studies Association of Australia.
Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals 10 (Reduced Inequalities), 11 (Sustainable Cities), 16 (Peace, Justice), and 5 (Gender Equality). Previous roles include Sessional Lecturer at the Australian National University and Project Officer at NAATI.
