Dr. Mahbub Ahmed serves as the Chair of the Department of Engineering and Physics and holds the rank of Associate Professor of Engineering at Southern Arkansas University (SAU). He also works part-time as a visiting faculty member at the University of Texas at El Paso during summer semesters. His affiliations include SAU's Engineering Program and the Science & Engineering College.
Dr. Ahmed earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Bangladesh University (1997), M.E. in Industrial Engineering from Lamar University (2001), a D.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Lamar University, and a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Materials Science & Engineering from the University of Texas, El Paso (2008).
His research and professional interests span materials science, mechanical systems design, industrial engineering, and aerospace applications. He has consulting experience with local industries, including multi-year collaborations with aerospace company Amfuel. Dr. Ahmed maintains a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering in Arkansas.
His teaching career includes roles at Georgia Southern University (2008–2012) and spans engineering disciplines such as engineering physics, engineering technology, and industrial technology. He has industry experience as a design engineer, specializing in solid modeling and product visualization.
