Maggie Griffith Williams is a Lecturer in the Department of Communication at the University of Maryland, part of the College of Arts and Humanities. Her research focuses on intercultural communication, digital media, Caribbean studies, and diaspora identities. Before joining UMD, she taught at Northeastern University, Ramapo College of New Jersey, and the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Her work explores topics such as domestic violence activism in India during the pandemic, media representations of religious festivals like Phagwa in Trinidad, and the role of cultural practices like pichakaree songs in shaping diasporic identities. She co-founded the Caribbean Caucus within the National Communication Association and serves on editorial boards for the Florida Journal of Communication and Indenture Papers.
Recent publications analyze digital feminist campaigns addressing gender violence, diasporic cultural performances, and the negotiation of religious and national identities in Trinidad.
