N. Fadeke Castor is an Assistant Professor of Religion and Africana Studies at Northeastern University's College of Social Sciences and Humanities. She holds a PhD from the University of Chicago and a BA from Pomona College. Her research focuses on African diaspora studies, Black feminist ethnography, and the intersectional politics of decolonization, particularly through the lens of Yorùbá Ifá traditions in Trinidad. She is the author of Spiritual Citizenship: Transnational Pathways from Black Power to Ifá in Trinidad (2017), which won the Clifford Geertz Prize in 2018.
Castor's current projects include Digital Ancestral Altars, an archive funded by the Crossroads Project to commemorate Trinidad's Ifá/Orisha elders. Her work explores spiritual ontologies, digital counterpublics, and the role of ritual in fostering collective care and social transformation. She has held fellowships at Princeton University and is a Visiting Scholar at Harvard Divinity School's Center for the Study of World Religions.
Her courses include Religion and Spirituality in the African Diaspora and Introduction to Religious Studies, emphasizing comparative religious traditions and critical methodologies. Awards include the 2023 Crossroads Community Stories Fellowship and recognition for her contributions to African diasporic studies.
Key themes in her scholarship include transnational religious communities, digital Black religions, and the ethical imperatives of ancestral remembrance. She collaborates with global Yorùbá Ìṣẹ̀ṣe communities to preserve cultural heritage through innovative digital platforms.
