David Oh is an Associate Professor in the Communications Department at Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, joining in Spring 2024. He teaches courses on media and diversity, cultural theory, and research methods. Before Syracuse, he held roles at Ramapo College of New Jersey (2013-2023), Colorado State University, and Villanova University. His research focuses on Asian American media representation, transnational media reception, and Korean diaspora studies.
Education: Ph.D. and M.A. in Mass Communications from Syracuse University's Newhouse School (2007, 2000); B.A. in Psychology from Baylor University (1996); Korean Language Certificate from Yonsei University (2002).
Research emphasizes Asian American journalists' experiences, racial dynamics in U.S. film, and transnational media consumption patterns among Korean diasporas. His work includes three authored books, nearly 40 peer-reviewed articles, and edited volumes. Awards include the Fulbright Senior Scholarship and multiple top paper recognitions from communication associations.
Teaching specialties include media audiences, identity studies, and qualitative research methodologies. Advising and mentorship have been recognized through the Asian/Pacific American Caucus Faculty Mentorship Award (2019).
