Magdalena Markowska is a Research Fellow at King’s Business School, King’s College London, and holds an Associate Professor position at Umea University (Sweden, on leave). She serves as an Associate Editor at the International Journal of Gender and Entrepreneurship. Her research focuses on women entrepreneurship, exploring how family-friendly policies impact maternal entrepreneurship and identity negotiation between motherhood and professional roles. Current projects investigate women entrepreneurs’ wellbeing. She has secured over EUR 1.6 million in funding from EU Horizon MSCA, the Swedish Research Council, and Nordic councils.
Research Interests
Her work addresses three core areas: (1) women’s entrepreneurship and gender equity, (2) entrepreneurial identity formation across life transitions, and (3) structural factors enabling or hindering entrepreneurial entry. Key themes include motherhood’s dual role as barrier/enabler, policy impacts on entrepreneurship, and cultural norms shaping entrepreneurial choices in contexts like Ethiopia and Sweden.
