Maeve O'Riordan is a Lecturer in Women's and Cultural History at the School of History, University College Cork (UCC). Her academic career includes roles as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Maynooth University and Programme Manager at the Irish Research Council. She holds a PhD in History from UCC (2014) and advanced qualifications in teaching and leadership.
Her research focuses on Irish gender history, particularly elite women in the 19th–20th centuries, country house studies, and material culture. Notable works include Women of the Country House in Ireland, 1860-1914 (2018) and curated exhibitions like Lives Less Ordinary: The Women of Airfield House (2015). Collaborations include co-editing a special issue on the Irish family with Dr. Leanne Calvert.
Her grants and awards include an Irish Research Council Scholarship (2010), a Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellowship (2014), and election as a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society (2022). She actively promotes interdisciplinary research networks across humanities and social sciences.
Teaching interests include modules on gender history, the Big House, and public history. She coordinates courses such as HI1012 (Women in Europe since 1800) and HI3001 (Gender History in Ireland). Professional roles include membership in the Society for the Study of Nineteenth Century Ireland and the Women's History Association.
