Maegan Watson is an Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Cellular & Molecular Physiology at the Yale School of Medicine. She holds a PhD in Biomedical Science/Neuroscience from the University of Connecticut Health (2017) and a BS in Biology from Franklin Pierce University (2007). Her research focuses on mRNA stability mechanisms, gene expression regulation, and microbial pathogenesis. Key contributions include developing the Roadblock-qPCR method for measuring mRNA decay and studying the role of mRNA terminal sequences in expression dynamics. Watson collaborates extensively with Dr. Carson Thoreen on projects involving LARP1 translation targets and Pseudomonas aeruginosa virulence pathways. Her work bridges molecular biology and clinical applications, particularly in understanding genetic and epigenetic factors in alcohol use disorder. She is affiliated with the Thoreen Lab at Sterling Hall of Medicine in New Haven, CT.
