Madhusudan Dey is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), within the College of Letters & Science. He holds dual faculty membership in the Microbiology program. His research focuses on molecular mechanisms regulating protein synthesis and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress responses. Key interests include translation initiation control via eIF2α kinases (PKR/PERK), UPR signaling through HAC1/XBP1 mRNA regulation, and the emerging role of Kin1/Kin2 kinases in yeast stress adaptation.
Education: PhD in Life Sciences from Jawaharlal Nehru University (2000), MSc in Biotechnology from Madurai Kamaraj University (1994).
Research highlights include discovering novel roles for Kin kinases in ER stress pathways, elucidating HAC1 mRNA translational repression mechanisms, and characterizing PKR activation dynamics. His work bridges basic molecular mechanisms with translational applications in cancer biology and stress response therapies.
Selected grants and collaborations involve studies on UPR signaling networks, RNA-protein interactions, and kinase signaling pathways. The Dey lab utilizes yeast as a primary model system to explore conserved stress response mechanisms.
