Dr. Madeleine Le Bourdon is an Associate Professor in Political Pedagogy and Politics of Development at the University of Leeds, where she also serves as Director of the Centre for Teaching Scholarship and Innovation (CTIS) and co-host of the 'Politics and Pedagogy' podcast. She holds a PhD in Global Development, an LLM in International Human Rights Law, and a BA in International Politics and Policy.
Research Interests: Her work critically examines pedagogical and methodological approaches to Global Education, focusing on reflexive practices, social justice, and decoloniality. Recent projects include fostering equitable Global Education Partnerships, investigating social media’s role in political pedagogy, and analyzing youth activism during the pandemic.
Grants & Projects:
- Fostering Transformative Pedagogies in Global Education Partnerships (2024–present), funded by the International Strategy Fund (co-PI with Prof. Anne Tallontire).
- Political Studies and Social Media (2024), funded by the British International Studies Association (co-PI with Drs. Louise Pears, Andreas Papamichail, and Nat Jester).
- #GlobalJustice?: Social Media, Pedagogy and Activism (2021–2022), funded by the European Education Research Association.
Leadership & Engagement: She is a co-editor of the International Journal for Development Education and Global Learning, a trustee of Diversity in Development, and serves on the board of the Academic Network for Global Education and Learning.
Labs & Teams: Leads the Centre for Teaching Scholarship and Innovation (CTIS) at Leeds, actively contributing to the ASPIRE Network, a UK teaching-track academic network in Politics and International Relations.
