Dr. Katie Hodgkinson is a Lecturer in Education in Global Development at the University of Leeds, affiliated with the School of Politics and International Studies within the Faculty of Social Sciences. Her work focuses on interdisciplinary and youth-led approaches to education, post-conflict societies, and global development. She holds a PhD in Education and International Development, an MSc in International Development, and a BSc in European Politics and International Relations.
Her research expertise includes youth engagement in education for social justice and peacebuilding in conflict-affected contexts, alongside broader themes of youth accountability in global development. She currently leads the AHRC Follow on Funding project 'Non-Formal Education for Youth-Led Change,' building on the 'Changing the Story' initiative which explored participatory arts in civil society building across 12 conflict-affected countries. This project collaborates with the British Council to develop youth-centered non-formal education programs.
Prior to Leeds, she worked at the University of Amsterdam on projects like the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs' 'Her Choice' SRHR alliance and SOS Children’s Villages research on youth social exclusion. She is a member of professional networks such as INEE (Inter-Agency Network for Education in Emergencies) and BAICE (British Association for International and Comparative Education).
Her teaching specializes in Education and Global Development, including Education in Emergencies. Current research partnerships include a Knowledge Transfer Partnership with Hope and Homes for Children focusing on 'Radical Youth Accountability.'
