Miassar Alhasan is a Visiting Fellow at the School of Politics and International Studies, University of Leeds, Faculty of Social Sciences. She is also a Cara Syria Programme Fellow and previously served as an Honorary Fellow at the University of South Wales (2020–2024). Her work bridges engineering, higher education development, and humanitarian response in conflict zones, particularly in northwest Syria.

Her research focuses on higher education in emergencies, quality assurance in conflict-affected universities, and environmental pollution due to war. She leads a developmental partnership with the Universities of Leeds, Kent, and Sussex under Cara, aiming to enhance higher education capacities at Sham University in Syria. This includes improving governance, curriculum, pedagogy, staff development, gender balance, and student mobility.
Her recent publications and projects examine soil contamination in Syria and academic systems in war zones. The articles reflect interdisciplinary work combining environmental science, educational policy, and conflict studies, with applications in public health, sustainable agriculture, and international development.

She has led institutional delegations to UK universities and presented at major forums including the Royal Society, SRHE, and UALL. She advises on international academic partnerships and has secured funding from Cara for transformative educational projects.
