Dr. Machteld Vonk is an Associate Professor at Antwerp University, holding the rotating TPR private law chair (2019-2020). She is affiliated with the Faculty of Law, specializing in Family Law and the Law of Persons, and is also a member of A-LAB and the Amsterdam Centre for Family Law. Her research focuses on comparative family law, modern family structures, children's rights, and assisted reproduction. She serves as a legal advisor to the Hof Den Haag and the Raad voor de Strafrechtstoepassing en Jeugdbescherming in The Hague.

Her research explores legal frameworks for non-traditional family structures, surrogacy rights, and child welfare. She has published extensively on adoption law, foster care systems, and European human rights law's impact on family law. She leads projects on 'simple adoption' for long-term foster children and legal recognition of non-traditional families. Her work bridges legal theory and practical policy reform.
