Dr. Lydia Bracken is a Senior Lecturer in Law and Assistant Dean for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at the University of Limerick's Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. During February-March 2023, she served as a Visiting Professor at the University of Zurich's URPP Human Reproduction Reloaded project (Sub-project 1: Normativity of Human Reproduction).
Her research specializes in legal frameworks for non-traditional families and reproductive technologies. Primary domains include:
- Child/family law dynamics and parental rights
- European human rights jurisprudence
- Surrogacy legislation and assisted reproduction ethics
- Intersectional analysis of guardianship and adoption policies
She actively shapes law reform through engagements with Irish parliamentary committees (e.g., Oireachtas Committees on International Surrogacy and Children's Rights) and the European Commission Against Racism and Intolerance.
