She is also a Research Scientist at the HIV and Host Genetics Laboratory, National Microbiology Laboratory, and a Scientist at the Children's Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba (CHRIM). Her research focuses on HIV vaccine development, host genetics, and viral pathogenesis.
- PhD, University of Manitoba (1987)
- Master of Science, Chinese University of Science and Technology (1982)
Dr. Luo’s groundbreaking work includes the development of the PCS HIV vaccine targeting protease cleavage sites and investigating FREM1/TILRR-mediated inflammation in viral susceptibility and disease severity. Her multidisciplinary approach combines genetic analysis, molecular biology, biochemistry, and bioinformatics to advance vaccines and therapies for HIV, influenza, and SARS-CoV-2.
She actively mentors graduate students and collaborates with research teams at CHRIM and the National Microbiology Laboratory, contributing to global health initiatives.
